As the second lockdown comes to an end, we are continuing to follow the Government Guidelines. Since March 8th 2021 our ‘Lone Rangers’ (litter pickers) and ‘Secret Gardeners’ have been back out working hard throughout the valley, working on their own or with one other ‘buddy’.
From 29th March 2021 we are now able to organise our regular Community Garden work parties once again, with up to six volunteers working together. We’re starting to reclaim our gardens from the ravages of lost time, weeds are being removed, plants and bulbs planted and Himalayan Balsam will once again start to be bashed in the very near future!
Following the lockdown restrictions our long term volunteers are being joined by a steady stream of new and willing recruits, and we all look forward to seeing the results of their hard work later on this Spring and Summer.
However, Mother Nature (and collecting litter) never stops and so we’re always looking for more help.
Our bee and butterfly friendly plants across our gardens and the first of our rewilding area in Rawtenstall Cemetery are helping the populations of both to thrive. Rewilding is a key part of our strategy which benefits the environment and ultimately the community.
