The All New Singing and Dancing Weekly Witterings

Dear Civic Pride,

Wherever you are in Rossendale Valley, you’ll no doubt be aware that after a decade of stoical commitment, Chris Blomerley (finally) retired as our beloved Chair at the AGM* last Tuesday. Stepping into his welly boots is Roger Grimshaw, who immediately delegated the task of Weekly Witterings to yours truly. I really should have seen that coming…..

Let me introduce myself: Helen Thomas, gardener and occasional litter picker for CPR since 2012, I assumed the role of Chair for 2015, and was responsible for Gardens and Operations during the following two years. I’m also the not so Secret Gardener for Saint Mary’s Way Embankment and delighted to be appointed as the new Vice Chair for CPR.

So, what’s occurring in Civic Pride World over the coming week?

Tuesday 25th February, Crawshawbooth:
There’s no gardening session this week, but the Crawshawbooth team will be out litter picking in their own time.

Thursday 27th February, 10am until 12noon, Rawtenstall: The Riverside Walk (corner of Bury Road /Bocholt Way)
Lots of tidying up, pruning, weeding and litter picking alongside the Irwell.
Come and join the Thursday Crew for a big team effort and a brew.

Sunday 1st March, 10am until 12noon, Rawtenstall: Arboretum (on the A682 corner next to McDonalds)
Everyone is welcome to join our regular First Sunday of the Month project. This month we are aiming to tidy up and de-bramble the maturing mini-arboretum. Equipment is supplied, but do wear sturdy boots, bramble proof clothes and your CPR hi-vis .

Other news: In Waterfoot the excellent work at Trickett’s Memorial Garden and Mytholme Park continues, despite the random removal of parts of the new Mytholme compost bins by persons unknown (now repaired).
Litter picking and gardening teams are also busy in Haslingden, Helmshore, Edenfield, Weir and Bacup, so please check out their Facebook pages for more details.

If you would like to put your local CPR activities into the Weekly Witterings, then please do email me [email protected] and I’ll make certain to include your session in the regular email. As usual, you can check out our Facebook and Instagram, and don’t forget Quick Topic for posting up to the minute litter picking and gardening information.

That’s it for this week! Apologies if I’ve missed anything out….let me know!
