A Mighty Busy Witter 😯

Dear Devoted Volunteers,

Busy? Watering, planting, weeding, erecting greenhouse, sorting summer baskets (rather a lot of ’em), RHS comp arrangements, buying plants, arranging sessions, answering multiple calls for help, adding Gyro train carriages – ok not much really.

This week’s happenings :-

Weds 22nd 6.30pm No.(2) in our series of Summer Evening sessions. This time, Haslingden Rd Gardens to finish off May’s tasks there. Only 3 of us at last week’s dig ….. just sayin’ …. ’twas a lovely midge-free summer evening as well!
Thurs 23rd 10am our wonderful Thursday Crew, always looking for new recruits and talent (is that you??) are engaged on the inbound layby garden – that’s the one near McD’s.
Fri 24th 10am onwards Anne (wonderful Gardens Officer) is going round all the gardens entered for the RHS It’s Your Neighbourhood comp. NB Secret Gardeners – if your garden is in this, Anne will have emailed you about it. A reply’d be helpful if poss, please.
Fri 24th 8pm onwards we congregate at Buffer Stops for gossip, a catch-up, and a warm welcome to any new folk who’ve not been before.
Sun 26th 8am onwards Watering Team stand ready – very little rain currently forecast BUT as we’re removing all the hanging and barrier baskets on Sun 2nd June we might only need an abbreviated session this morning. NB (another one!) – Keith is very short of volunteers for this, despite the Witter appeal a couple of weeks ago. Can you help, even if only occasionally? keith3655@btinternet.com Thanx!
Mon 27th 9.30am Waterfoot inhabitants, help the Tricketts Memorial Ground crew continue the work of restoring TMG., Burnley Rd East.
Mon 27th 10am Inhabitants from anywhere, this time! The bypass verges and central reservation will be mowed Tues 28th. Mass litterpick session of the whole thing before mowers go in. Meet at Hardman’s Mill (look for the Civic Pride van). Details from rogerlitter@civic-pride.org.uk
Mon 27th time uncertain Yo! The Civic Pride greenhouse is being delivered to the ready-prepared base behind R’stall market. The driver’ll need showing where to leave it. Can you make yourself available for at least part of the day to meet him when it arrives? Please let me know! chris@civic-pride.org.uk or 07955 110199 Ta!
Mon 27th ALL DAY! It’s a Bank Holiday – so you’re probably free today! Come out, join in, help us! Please! (you’ll feel soooo virtuous afterwards won’tcha?)

Get the diary out ! Advanced notice herein below of oh-so-crucial stuff ……

Weds 29th 10am Waterfoot’s Horse and Bamboo Theatre tidying-up their garden prior to Wakes Week and need help! You’re being lured there by a free pie ‘n’ peas lunch. Good, eh? Please email Jenn, so she can have some idea of numbers for feeding. jenn@horseandbamboo.org
Sun 2nd June 10am The first-Sunday-of-the-month event is collecting all the winter/spring-flowering hanging baskets/barrier baskets, rescuing some of the perennials then emptying them. More details next week. There’re – um – rather a lot of them! We can’t get them all in the van so extra vehicles will be a huge help.
Mon 10th June 10am Anne’s organising a Mass Balsam Bashing event with RBC support, including, hopefully, some local councillors. Meet at R’stall cemetery gates ‘n’ help us shift some of this invasive foreign balsam weed from our area.
Weds 10th July Royal Horticultural Society’s judges in town to assess the Civic Pride gardens entered in the It’s Your Neighbourhood comp. This date’s provisional at the moment but we’re having a minor panic already …

Yup, sorry, rather a lot for us to do ….. so I’ll leave the Palm Oil thing ’til next week (what IS he on about …??)

Cheers!

Chris
