I made a simple garden compost bin out of pallets and started filling it with garden and kitchen waste in March.
I do chop everything up, layer different types of waste and turn it regularly. So this morning (September) a final turn was called for before closing the bin to overwinter (I’ve already start a fresh composting pile).
With the front of bin removed the compost structure is clearly seen.
Can you spot the toad/frog which has lived in my bin all summer? It has the long back legs of a frog but the dry warty back of a toad!
I turned the compost to aerate it and once again ‘froad’ popped back inside!
Here’s an example of friable compost found at bottom of pile. No smell – just goodness.
